The 100th Eficodean joins the company
Over the past year, a total of 40 people have joined Eficode. This means that the number of employees has virtually doubled in a year. How did we arrive here and how will we continue? Risto Virkkala, Eficode’s CEO, explains.
Round about six years ago, Eficode started from a core team of less than ten people. The common dream of the first Eficodeans was to execute better software engineering than anyone else, and a successful company eventually grew around this vision. The head count has grown steadily since the beginning, along with the turnover.
Today, the personnel are mostly engaged in software engineering tasks, as well as in units focused on systems and maintenance. The pioneering software production development unit, and the product-development team responsible for the Deveo software-development platform, are also growing strongly. “The growth has steered towards the areas where our expertise is in demand, including outside Finland. We are lucky that we have been able to employ so many fine and skilful people,” says Virkkala.
“A company’s growth always brings challenges. It is important now to preserve the spirit of Eficode inside the growing company. We do not want our renowned drive for ‘getting things done’ to disappear into the depths of the organisation. We want to minimise bureaucracy as much as possible and thereby preserve an informal manner. Furthermore, we do not wish to place anybody in an ivory tower, but just work closely in teams,” Virkkala points out.
Virkkala emphasises that growth means, above all, possibilities: “Employees can now be offered career paths in the international arena. In a company of this size, there is also a huge amount of expertise shared among the employees.” Eficode has developed its entirely own ecosystem for internal training.
The 100th Eficoder was welcomed to our China office this week, with modest fanfare and a champagne reception. Welcome to the company, Jianyu Wang! We hope that he will become an equally proud Eficodean as the rest of us. The next in line to join the Eficode team is the Employee Engagement Specialist, whose task is to safeguard the wellbeing of the ever-increasing number of Eficodeans.
