Kymenlaakson Logistiikkainfo (KymLog) is an information system designed for the logistics companies of the Kymenlaakso region and their interest groups with the aim of improving the distribution of time-critical information. Up-to-the-minute information on traffic congestion, weather and other circumstances is crucial as every driver wants to know which route is safe and no company wants their trucks to be stuck in heavy traffic. The system produced by EfiCode helps to anticipate the circumstances and uses a mobile service to deliver the information to where it matters. The drivers are supplied with up-to-the-minute traffic data, weather and road conditions and information about other potentially risky circumstances and disturbances. The data, produced by Destia, along with potential changes and updates to previous data, is sent to a vehicle terminal or the driver's GSM telephone.
The sender or the recipient of the goods or other interest groups in the logistic chain (such as harbours, terminals or production facilities) may also require real-time data on incoming traffic in order to guarantee smooth operations. The system shows which transportation company's route the recipient is on, and calculates the estimated time of delivery. The receiving cargo terminal can send messages to the approaching vehicle and/or the transport coordinator if the schedule changes or other changes occur.
The structure of the system makes it possible to use it on a national scale and facilitates extending the system with various online logistics customer services, such as timetable services or systems facilitating electronic communications from the authorities. In the future, the service will be developed as a part of the Freightwise EU project.
