In the last few years, what it means to be a CIO has evolved considerably. In the not-too-distant past, the scope of this role mainly encompassed technology choices and strategy. But now, most CIOs are heavily involved in the business aspects of their organization. This has a potentially significant impacts for everyone who reports, directly and indirectly, to the CIO. However, because CIOs have the ability to cross boundaries in the enterprise with relative ease, they sometimes underestimate how challenging this can be for other people, further down the org chart — including the DevOps team. Through the Key Findings of the Puppet 2018 State of DevOps Report, we examine how this discrepancy can limit the success of a CIO’s efforts to improve the organization as a whole, and what they can do to effectively address it.

This session gives an overview of how companies have implemented DevSecOps practices in their own delivery pipelines and how this can help increase developer awareness of risks affecting them. We’ll walk through an example CICD Pipeline and explore how security has been embedded as a part of it, how the movement is shaping up and how standards are starting to follow suit.

Agile transformations are most definitely an arduous undertaking – taking on people, processes and politics – but if you’re struggling with your transformation, you can stack the odds in your favour. I’m going to highlight how different strokes work for different folks, and why elements are more likely to succeed than others given your organisation culture. I’l also include examples from Klarna with the changes and decisions that have taken us from Good to Great… and where we hope to go next!
